Let us tell you a brief history of the NAACP. A group of white and black citizens, outraged at the ongoing inhumane and disparate treatment of the "Negro" in America, founded the NAACP in New York on February 12,1909. After a mob in Springfield, IL drove scores of African Americans into exile from their homes, wounding and killing many in the process, the activists came together to effect change.
We believe that silence means approval of wrong doings in any form to any person or group. The NAACP has led the fight for social justice for all Americans for nearly 100 years.
Our national focus continues to be advocacy in the areas of education, health, veterans' affairs, non-partisan voter registration and economic empowerment. The work of the Association -- social, economic, and educational justice for all -- depends on the support and participation of caring individuals like you.
