Why should you consider writing a check today to support  Portsmouth's NAACP #2070

We depend on our members' generosity, businesses and other organizations to keep the flames of freedom bright. Our organization depends greatly on volunteerism for without volunteers needed works go undone.

Benefits

Through civil rights advocacy and community organizations, each unit/branch of the NAACP works to improve the political, educational, social and economic status of minority groups and eliminate prejudices.

Keep the public aware of adverse effects of racial and minorities discrimination and take lawful action to secure its elimination.

Let us tell you a brief history of the NAACP. A group of white and black citizens, outraged at the ongoing inhumane and disparate treatment of the "Negro" in America, founded the NAACP in New York on February 12,1909.  After a mob in Springfield, IL drove scores of African Americans into exile from their homes, wounding and killing many in the process, the activists came together to effect change.

We believe that silence means approval of wrong doings in any form to any person or group.  The NAACP has led the fight for social justice for all Americans for nearly 100 years.

Our national focus continues to be advocacy in the areas of education, health, veterans' affairs, non-partisan voter registration and economic empowerment.  The work of the Association -- social, economic, and educational justice for all -- depends on the support and participation of caring individuals like you. To continue to do the work this organization does we need your financial help, may it be $5.00 or $500 or $5,000. Please consider giving today.
